Dear English Teachers,

As a presenter, I wish to add my comments about the convention. First of
all, the committee did an outstanding job under the circumstances. Most of
the rooms were too small to hold the number of particpants who wished to be
at a particular session. I had a regular classroom which should hold about
30 people and we were 60. The air-conditioning wasn't the best, there
weren't enough chairs, but nobody complained. Everyone understood and,
hopefully, enjoyed these overcorwded sessions.

A special thank you to all of the English teachers, our colleagues, who give
of their time and expertise, at no charge (or pay) to all of us. The
sessions I attended were all excellent, on a high level and showed the
intellectual curiosity, care for our students and knowledge that we seem to
take for granted. Don't!! No other subject team in the country has the
organization, meetings, seminars, trainers, personnel and high motivation
that we English teachers have. Other subject teachers are always envious of
us and say how lucky we are to have such a framework.

Yes, David Yellin was less than ideal. True, the lines for the cafeteria
and coffee bar were long and didn't have a large variety. True, many of the
rooms were too small for the number of people wishing to participate
(including the 101-2 room for the play). True, some of us were getting
frantic phone calls regarding the Thursday Moed Bet exam. But think of all
that we have, all that we were able to do, what we learned and the new ideas
we came home with.

So--Kol Hakavod to the Etai committee (who truly worked very hard), all the
presenters, the book staff (who had unbearably crowded conditions and yet
were alwyas helpful and polite) and to us--the English teachers who come,
enjoy, learn and support this endeavor.

See you next year (and of course during the year at our holiday time
seminars). Thank you all.

Shelly Ganiel
