For some reason written expression is not TAUGHT in L1 here--that is ,
Hebrew, until high school and then in 11th grade. For awhile, they only
studied and practiced in 12th grade.
I don't know the logic behind it, but as a parent and an English teacher I
have been whining about it ( with my colleagues ) for about 30 years. Why
"composition" isn't taught and practiced in elementary school is a mystery.
Re paragraphs -- if one checks the HEBREW books put out by Tal Maalot, one
will find that a new paragraph begins at the next line. One only has to
skip a line if the last sentence of the preceding paragraph comes to the end
of the line. So our argument with the MOE is with form, content and
curriculum.
re: HOTS -- it is not clear who sent the first comment -- but it echoes
what many of us have been saying all year: it should be taught in L1 and
earlier, not in a foreign language in high school (10th,11th or 12th
grade ). This particular issue has nothing to do with our being overworked
or underpaid: it is simply a bad use of resources.
