Subject: RE: Projects and oral bagrut this year...

I am on sabbatical this year, thank goodness, and so I am observing the
projects dispute from afar.

Because of the multitude of teacher disputes and the apparent lack of
understanding of the Head of the Irgun about the Oral bagrut and its
problems, in our school we do our projects in 11th grade. (Get it out of the
way..)

Each year, we pray that there will not be a "teacher dispute" which will
imperil our oral bagrut testing. It is most difficult to get the date(s) on
the calendar -- as you all know -- and to reschedule is nearly impossible.
In the past, we have convinced testers ( and done it ourselves ) to test,
but to not submit grades until the dispute is settled. That was last
year's problem (and perhaps next year's) .

About this year's problem:

Tziona Levi has said that " we are accountable to those who pay us" and not
to the unions --- therefore we must work on projects -- and do the
literature modules and whatever else the Ministry decides without our
representation and without consideration of the problems in the field.

The Irgun was behaving in a very shortsighted manner leaving our pupils
and/or us in the lurch to pay the price. BUT, they are trying to gain
compensation for our labor and prevent us from becoming pawns in the
Ministry's game of "Let's try something new this year...". Perhaps, if we
are more concerned about ourselves and a bit less concerned about our
pupils we would act (and would have acted) in a unified manner and simply
refuse to do the projects. What exactly would have happened if the 50% or
so of high schools who are Irgun schools did not have projects and had
worked together to say NO emphatically.

We should think about this seriously, before agreeing to do BOTH projects
and Literature MODULE (of course teach literature, but preparing for a NEW
module is a bit different) .
