A friend of mine wrote to me with the following query: 


Is it O'k to ask " Do the class go on a trip?"
I said that the best way to ask is "Does the class...?
In his opinion "class" is composed of pupils , that's why we have to say "Do" 
and not "Does"
What is the correct form to ask this question?
As far as I know we can say both.
Please, answer me.

I answered her that, in my opinion, 'does' was preferable.
