Subject: Grains of Sand

I just read comments on ETNI's site about the book "Grains of Sand." Yes,
the vocabulary is better suited to four pointers than five pointers. Living
as we do in the Sederot/ Netivot area, our ulpana's population contains both
pupils and staff from the former Gush Katif settlements. I believe that
whatever a person's politics, this painful episode (relevant for the entire
country) was an important event in our recent history that has been largely
swept under the carpet.

Shifra's book and writing is perfect for my weak 4 point 10th grade class.
Indeed, we have read portions of the book in class and the pupils found it
both interesting and important. They also immensely enjoyed the fact that
unlike much literature we've done in the past, (more classic pieces,) they
didn't have to use the dictionary for every second word. We had lively
discussions about issues raised in the book. I do think it is entirely
appropriate for the D module.

And for whoever asked, the book was written in ENGLISH as Shifra comes from
an English speaking family.
But, as a new Irgun member am I correct in assuming that we are NOT supposed
to do anything regarding the new Literature module-- not hishtalmuyot; etc.
as there is no agreement yet?

All the Best-
