Newsletter 7: January 2008. "If you can't come to ETAI, ETAI will come to
you."
Dear Readers,
Spring isn't even on the horizon yet, but everything seems to be "coming up
roses" at ETAI at the moment. Unlike the weather we're having, the ETAI
events are providing just what our members want and need, and close to home
as well.
The first in the series of "The Use of Film in the Classroom" workshops,
organized by Hanan Abu Dalu, took place in Beit Safafa on January 14th. It
was attended by 12 very enthusiastic participants, who were treated to a
highly productive afternoon, with material provided by the helpful staff
from the British Council.
Three mini-conferences are coming up: one at the Eshkol Payis in Maghar,
organized by Fran Sokel and her team, will take place on January 24th.
Afterwards Eilat is getting into the act, thanks to Rose Whitman, on January
27th. Programmes for these two events are up on the ETAI site, so get the
details and go! It would be a shame to miss them! Next on the list is a
mini-conference in Yavne, set up by Michele Ben and Amanda Caplan, on
Sunday, February 17th, at Ginsburg HaOren School.
If all this is not enough action for you, we are finalizing details for more
"Use of Film in the Classroom" workshops in an area near you. Information
to be posted shortly.
Last but not least in this ETAI update is the Spring Conference in Haifa on
April 14th at Reut Junior High. As part of the new trend in ETAI events so
far this year, we have done a full day conference at Kaye College in Beer
Sheva, several mini-conferences in various areas of the country with many
more lined up, and now a midi-conference. In order to fit the Spring
Conference into the very busy calendar that teachers have, the conference
committee in the north, headed by Penny Ur, decided on this new format of
"midi" (from 13:00-18:30), which we are sure will be a success.
I began this issue of the newsletter by mentioning spring, and now I'm
already up to summer. Just so you don't get the impression that the ETAI
board members are resting on their laurels, I'll give you a few snippets of
information regarding the National Summer Conference. The dates that were
chosen are Tuesday and Wednesday,
July 15-16, 2008, and the venue is the Bayit Vegan Guest House, Jerusalem.
We are very aware that the end of this school year will not be a smooth one
for many of you, and it will work out much later than usual. However, we
decided to go ahead and schedule the conference for around the same time as
usual, hoping that you will respond and participate. An additional
consideration in finalizing the dates was the good news we have received
from TESOL: they are sending their President, Sandy Briggs, to be our guest
speaker! We are very excited about this wonderful addition to our usual
stimulating programme, and will provide more details as soon as possible.
I do hope you will enjoy all or some of the events in the upcoming ETAI
calendar!
Until the next issue of the newsletter, best wishes,
Nava Horovitz, ETAI Chair
