So, esteemed colleagues, what DOES the ministry accept as THE correct format for the "formal letter?" I have avidly been following the discussion on this forum. Since I began teaching high school for bagrut (midway through my 29 year career, ) my Mom, a retired Enlish teacher in the U.S.A., sent me a book called "English Grammar and Composition," published by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Inc. in the mid-1980's. It lists the way Sharon Peress mentioned (I am copying and pasting):
"The address of the writer goes on the right side always, the address of the person to whom the letter is addressed goes on the left side. The date can be either aligned under the address of the writer OR , as the first line, at the left margin."
In my textbook (whose format I have been teaching and using for years,) the date is on the right side, aligned under the address of the writer. Can someone "in the know" PLEASE tell us which format(s) will be given full credit on the upcoming F exam?
