Subject: College classroom photograph needed for article

Dear Etniniks,

I am an ESOL and English college instructor who specializes in seat position
of college students, and its significance. Where do students sit in the
class, and what does this non-verbal behavior signify? I have published
several articles, and wrote my PhD dissertation on this topic. One finding
is that in America, minorities (here African Americans, first or second
generation Jews, even Catholics, Africans, Hispanics) sit on the peripheries
of the group i.e on the outside. I recently visited an Israeli college
classroom and found with fascination, Arabs and Muslim and Ethiopians also
sitting in the front, back and sides.

If you wish to see my past articles, please google Gilda Haber

I am writing an article showing the similarities between the non-verbal
behavior of minorities in America and in a totally different setting. I
have photos of diverse students seating in America, but did not think to
take pictures of the classroom (with the instructor's permission and that of
the students). If anyone has a diverse student class and is willing to take
and send me a picture from the teacher's viewpoint, of the classroom, I
would be most grateful. This would also be great PR for Israel showing
cooperative endeavors, as the news only reports fighting.

Such a photo should be taken with permission of the instructor, after four
sessions minimum, when student terriroty is usually fixed for the semester.
The picture should be taken about half-time during the lecture so as to
allow for late arrivals and early departures.

Students should not be told before the picture is taken that one is to be
taken as this might alter their seat choice. Obviously, this is done where
seating is by choice.

They can be told after the photo whatever you like.

The article is to be published in Focus on Faculty in June.

I would be most grateful for any help with a photograph sent to me by e-mail
or by mail.

If a professional photographer is used, I can offer $50 out of my own pocket
but the picture must clearly show diverse students. If diversity is not
clear on the photo, would the instructor inform me as to which students are
not Jewish sabres, these are the equivalent of White Anglo Saxon
Protestants, I think-and these usually sit in the center of the group.

Please feel free to e-mail me any questions at:

Many thanks,

Gilda Haber
