Dear Candy and all -
The use of youth violence cases by the press to raise the hostility level
towards teachers is indicative of one thing: this society uses school as a
collective babysitter. You lock the brats at school 8AM to 3PM, and you give
them enough homework to keep them at bay most of the rest of the day. Fair
enough.
Teachers have been blamed for poor bagrut results (Remember Livnat's "Of
course not OLNY the teachers are at fault..." implying that the teachers ARE
at fault), and for lots of other things.
Now the police are blaming the teachers for being unable to prevent street
violence... Curiouser and curiouser.
Somebody said that what the society saves on education it then spends on
building new prisons. This is exactly what we are witnessing now.
Yours -
Lev
