Subject: Which dictionary?
From: "Janette Segal" <janjon@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
this is a question for Judy Steiner......
Must the students use the NEW Oxford Student's dictionary for the new
Bagrut? While writing a textbook for Modules E,F and G - I used the New
dictionary - and was very surprised to find that there were quite a lot
of differences between the NEW and older dictionary:
1. some words had been omitted { I have no idea as to the reasoning
behind these omissions}
2. some words were give less definitions and in a few cases entirely
different definitions.
Another problem is the financial aspect. Many students have complained
and asked why they should buy a "new" dictionary - since they have
already bought a second hand "old" dictionary.
Will the writers of the English Bagrut be using the "new" or "old"
Oxford student's dictionary?
Best wishes, Shana Tova. Janette Segal
p.s. On a humorous note .....I hadn't actually noticed that we were
speaking a different English than we did last year? UH?
