In my 7th grade classes I DICTATE in HEBREW how to write a composition :
1- Choose your topic if the teacher doesn't give you one;
2- In short form, note the points IN HEBREW (Can be Arabic!) that you want 
to address;
3- NUMBER the order in which you will discuss them;
4- Start the comp. with a good opening sentence that tells the reader what 
you are writing about.
5- Relate to the points you noted in Hebrew/ Arabic with the use of 
connectors. (I give a short list.)
6- End with a good sentence that summarizes what you wrote about.
I take off my necklace and demonstrate that a good composition should be 
like a circle, meaning the end brings me back somehow/ is connected to the 
opening sentence. A POOR comp. is like a dead end/ rambling street. (I hold 
up the necklace hanging like a rope, as opposed to closed.) One of the 
problems is, in my humble opinion, not enough writing is done in junior 
high. Kids should start writing  a lot BEFORE high school,  even though this 
means more comps. for us to check. It's a good investment for the future!

I am pasting below a worksheet I just made up for my good 9th grade class to 
help them with their writing; hope this is helpful to somebody:
