I enjoy the conferences, though I only go in the summer to Jerusalem, and
it's an hour's trip from my home, and that's when the connections are
good. I usually give myself double the time. There are neither
conferences, nor suitable hishtlmuyot any closer. I took the NBA in
Jerusalem, when I read about it on ETNI. My school got a notice that we
were supposed to go to Maale Adumim. No way. Most of Mateh Binyamin is
too far from and not at all connected to that city, which I have no way to
visit. I don't have a car, and my buses don't go there.
This past summer I very proudly stopped taking handouts from the
sessions. I realized that I never look at them again, and the clutter at
home is too much. So when I gave a workshop I told people to take notes
and participate. Maybe it's just my "learning style," but I never benefit
from power point presentations. My favorite lecture prop is the giant pad
and marker, or writing board--they're no longer black. Also nothing beats
taking notes, even if I throw them out afterwards.
IMHO the best thing about the conferences is the informal networking, and
that's why I suggested that our f2f be a networking session. Let's do it
again; I think that everyone was pleased.
Shavua Tov and Chodesh Tov,
Batya
