Adjectives of two syllables are the hardest to teach as they can have either
more before or -er added to the end, or can accept both. (see any linguistic
dictionary. I generally use Quirk and Greenbaum or Stavik).
For example, you can say tireder or more tired. It depends on the dialect.
Some use one form or the other, some use both. Some, like those that end in -y
, -le, -ow, -er, -ure, because they are unstressed syllables, take -er.
Gerunds, on the other hand are almost always more ( more boring).
