The agreeement is eactly what the Divrat committe recommended almost to the 
detail -- but without the few perks that were recommended like private office 
space and more bathrooms -- real luxuries.
 
greater pay but much longer hours so it is not really greater pay;
Longer hours are meant for small groups (is 10 a small group? 10  non readers? 
10 A module kids?)
 
"Free"   hours are at the discretion of the school --Dovrat een suggested using 
(abusing) the free hours for subbing since were  getting paid anyhow
 
Much higher pay for new teachers to attract them, but the ceiling stops after 
15 years, about age 40 -- then you are over the hill.  Now, in the army at 40 
they also start retiring officers, not everyone becomes a general or even a 
colonel BUT
they get  a pension on which they can live EASILY and in COMFORT and of course, 
most get jobs in addition (often as school prinicpals, or politicians) 
 
The new agreement rules out  the special salary scheme for mothers:  every 
other civil servant is entitled to work 10% fewer hours until all the children 
are 14 years or older -- teachers are going to lose that benefit;
 
The salary scheme for the over 50's , 55's -- also being cancelled.  Civil 
servants, Defense ministry get a "year's adaptation " -- one day a week less -- 
before retirement -- teachers  just dump 'em .
 
I don't understand our representatives and I don't understand why we are 
putting up with it .  Even Ha'Aretz , whose writers are  so  "anti-teachers"  , 
has  repeatedly reprted  (Not Nehemia STrassler,though)  that all the other 
countries of the OECD --which Israel has just officially joined -- have better 
terms for teachers .  Higher salaries, higher earning power, smaller classes, 
fewer frontal hours, vacations are LONGER (yes, dearie... we do not have the 
longest vacations of teachers in the world, the opposite is closer to the 
truth) .   There were many other points ,but like with the political scene - we 
are going to continue to complain and not get anywhere.
