Hadas,
Although I usually teach younger children in groups I'll try to give you
some ideas.
1) Write a short dialogue together and perform. Film it and watch it
together. Some children will do a lot to see themselves on video.
2) Games or chants - Who stole the cookie, Someone's calling my name, etc.
Also card or board games (Zig Zag has some excellent ones, or games you have
in the house) played in English. For example, when I play foursomes with my
students, if they don't ask in English they don't get the card.
3) Ask him to bring a recording of a song he likes in English and learn it
together. My cd "English is Fun as You Advance" has some very good songs and
raps for this purpose.
4) If possible, introduce him to a tourist or overseas student or volunteer.
Prepare some questions in advance for him to ask. He's more likely to speak
English if he has no choice.
Good luck,
Kara Aharon
