Subject: Debating Summer Workshops


 To all English Teachers


 We are glad to inform you that Siah vSig: the Israel Debating Society, will
 be holding its usual annual Summer English Debating Workshops in Jerusalem
 and Lod (for the Central Area.) You are cordially invited to bring this to
 the attention of your colleagues and pupils and we will be glad to welcome
 new and previous participants. The Workshops will be taught by university
 debaters from the English-Speaking Union, London, together with our own
 local debaters with national and international experience, and will include
 rhetoric, public speaking and debating skills. The Workshops are suitable
 for students entering 8th to 12th grades; while the Workshops are held in
 English, total fluency is not necessary.


THE SUMMER DEBATING WORKSHOPS 2005



Ø      This year, we will be holding two Workshops during the summer
vacation - one in Jerusalem and one in the central area - in which we will
be training both new and experienced debaters.

Ø      Language: The workshop will be held in English, but you do not have
to be a native English speaker to enjoy benefit from it.

Ø      Ages: The Workshops are intended for students entering 8th to 12th
grades. No previous debating experience is necessary.

Ø      Coaching: Teaching will be by experienced and prizewinning debate
coaches from Great Britain, backed up by a team of some of the best student
debaters, all of whom have been members of Israel's national debating teams.

Ø      The Central Area Workshop will take place in Aleh Lod High School for
Sciences (33 Shapira Street, Lod), 3-8 July 2005. Transportation from Tel
Aviv and the Sharon area will be arranged from the school.

Ø      The Jerusalem Workshop will be held from 10-15 July 2005 at the
Pelech high school in the Baka area of Jerusalem. Apply to Haya Goldlist-

Ø      Both workshops are from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm.

Ø      Drinks and Lunch are provided.

Ø      The campuses are enclosed and have full security surveillance.

Ø      Final Day: A demonstration debate and award ceremony for parents and
friends will take place on Friday, the last day of each Workshop.

Ø      Cost: The cost of the Workshop is 750 NIS per person (650 NIS for
siblings and 550 NIS for members of our Debating Clubs.) We require 50 NIS
advance payment together with the registration form attached. The balance is
to be paid on the first day of the Workshop. Cheques should be made payable
to Siah veSig.
