It does not change much, but eliminating the commas and putting "Y
non-displayed" in [] would be better. At least it would be clearer. And I do
not think the "item(s)" is that necessary. And it gets shorter. So, the
status bar could look like this:
N selected of X displayed [Y non-displayed] in /<whatever>
"non-displayed" is proxy for "filtered, and/or hidden items that are

I have just looked at http://www.askoxford.com/concise_oed/hide_1?view=uk.
"Non-displayed" - which does not look nor sound nice - could be replaced by
concealed. Just a thought.
BTW, with this, the status line message is getting too long, unless you have
> a big screen and are using the whole width for the e2 window.
