to me it appears to be a gtk+ to glibc mis-match. e.g. - emelfm2: /lib/tls/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.3.4' not found - ldconfig (GNU libc) 2.3.2 glib/gtk were built against glibc-2.3.4? but you have 2.3.2?

if you use a new glibc be sure to also update pango, atk, glib and
gtk+.

I have tried this again after installing gcc-3.2 and gcc-3.4, still no

luck. I know have 3 gcc's installed 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4....is there a problem having this many installed? What are the effects of having multiple gcc's installed, if any?

there is no effect except that you can now use different gccs to compile source code.

did you try to reinstall libc and gtk? try

apt-get update

apt-get --reinstall install libc6-dev/unstable libgtk2.0-dev/unstable
gcc-3.3/unstable -t unstable

(all one line)

Well so much for the Glibc headers theory.
Find something else based on gtk2 and build it from source If you get the error message then dsyates was right. You'll either have to find a version of gkt2 built against Glibc-2.3.2 or rebuild gtk2 from source yourself.Doesn't Debian have source packages you can build?

I've been wanting to try Debian for a while and now but couldn't find an updated iso anywhere.Since I have an Athlon 2600+ and a Nforce2 based mainboard the "stable version" wouldn't work.I need a local copy because I'll be installing it on a drive connected to a Promise ATA 66 card which leads to more problems than I want to go into but is doable.
Hmmm,Looks like I'm highjacking your thread now. :)
