When first started, emelfm2 will normally create the folder ~/.emelfm2 if it
does not exist yet. Then, if there's no ~/.Trash folder, will create an
alternative, ~/.emelfm2/Trash. Later (either at the end of the first session,
of after a config dialog 'OK'), it will save 2 files named 'config' and 'cache'
in ~/.emelfm2. The user does not need to do anything to make all this happen.
Well, at least, that is the normal outcome.

So your case is very curious! The symptoms you report sure seem like lack of
permission to create directories and files - but of course that does not make
any sense in ~

It doesn't matter if you manually create an empty cache file, but you should
NOT try to create an empty config file - that will confuse things mightily and
crash. We could provide you a typical config file, but that would not really
solve your problem, as it would seem that the file could not be updated as it
should be, any time you alter your config settings.

Can you describe your environment a bit more ...
permissions for ~ are rwxr-xr-x ?
permissions for ~/.emelfm2 are rwxr-xr-x ?
emelfm2 was installed as binary or built from source ?
if built, gcc version ?
[g]libc version ?

Solving this may take a little forensic work ...

Regards
Tom
