More precisely, it's from glib.

URI-formatted strings are used for producing the strings used for communicating 
which items are to be processed. There's a standard (RFC 2396 - Uniform 
Resource Identifiers (URI): Generic Syntax) but IIRC it's vague about whether a 
"site" should be included in such strings. I infer from your report that not 
everything agrees about the proper approach, or perhaps some apps simply don't 
bother at all with the standard.

So, need to think about the implications, now and in future, if e2 also omits 
the hostname.

Or maybe there's some way to detect a failed drop and try again with the other 
approach.
