The grounds crew of UNCA know about the owl nest, and they told me that
they don't think that tree is in the construction zone, which is supposed
to start in April or May. It's likely that the young will fledge from the
nest before any trees are removed in that area. I have written to campus
operations to ask for more details, and informed them of the significant
interest in this nest by the local community. I will be in touch with more
details if I hear anything new!

into the head gardener. He is a bird enthusiast, manages the gardens for
wildlife, is knowledgeable about the breeding RS Hawk pair, and is
delighted the owls are there. He talked about how he selectively removes
and retains trees of all ages to support the variety of bird species
there. And, he keeps a list of birds there. I feel confident that if he
has his way the owl nesting tree will not be removed before the birds
