Motorcyclists slow for deer, get hit near Stevenson
By Stephanie Rice

Three people were injured Saturday in a collision on Highway 14 in
Skamania County.
Mark E. Russell, 51, of Vancouver and Dannie Lee Huber, 59, of Portland
were riding motorcycles about one mile east of Stevenson when they slowed
for deer in the roadway, according to a memo issued by the Washington
State Patrol.
Huber had a passenger, Tina L. Mitchell, 45, of Portland.
When Russell and Huber slowed, they were struck by Lloyd D. McCormack of
Milwaukie, Ore., who was driving a 1929 Mercedes.
Huber reported rib and back pain and Mitchell reported left leg pain.
Both were transported to Southwest Washington Medical Center.
Russell injured a finger and was not transported, according to the memo.
McCormack, 74, was not injured.
He’s suspected of following the motorcyclists too closely, said state
patrol spokeswoman Sandra Steele-Hoots.
Damage to his Mercedes was estimated at $2,000, while damage to Russell’s
motorcycle was estimated at $3,000 and damage to Huber’s Harley Davidson
was estimated at $7,000.
The collision occurred at approximately 2 p.m. in the eastbound lane.
