The core mission of the Analytics and Adaptive Learning team is the extraction of actionable information from the data to improve Pearson products and learning content; thus, the position provides the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research and to make a substantial contribution to learning and instruction. Responsibilities: Develop robust statistical models and learning algorithms to extract valid inferences about students’ learning from unstructured data. Design metrics and corresponding data collection algorithms that capture relevant user behavior to enhance both content and overall learning experience. Communicate research findings through internal reports, journal papers. executive summaries. Build functional proofs of concept. Qualifications Profound knowledge of working with data: data structures, data representation, data cleaning, data governance, and research database design. Experience with educational data is a plus. Research: deep understanding, experience and demonstrated success (peer review process, publications, conference talks). Excellent communication skills. Ability to create a compelling and faithful story based on research findings and methodology, for any audience level. Interest in human cognition, teaching and learning is a must. Experience with modern data mining techniques and technologies, e.g. probabilistic models, machine learning, Natural Language Processing, model design in general, visualization. Experience with SQL and relational databases is a plus. Fluency in using scientific computing tools like R, numpy/scipy or an equivalent. Programming experience strongly preferred. Exceptional problem solving skills, ability to quickly learn new concepts and methodologies as needed. Familiarity with the mathematical and numerical issues in algorithm development. Deep understanding of statistics and probability. Demonstrated ability to work on high impact problems in a collaborative environment.
