I used a USB to parallel cable for a while with my new Dell computer, and it seemed to be causing some problems. So, I had a parallel port installed, and I have had better luck.

Hi Keren,

I'm no expert here, but here's the theory.

I suspect the most important thing here is whether or not
you were able to emboss your files from DOS.

The next is whether or not your USB converter creates a
"Virtual LPT Port" which can be seen in Device Manager.
This will usually appear as LPT2 or LPT3. (I'll assume lpt3
below)

From the command prompt type

print >lpt3 filename.brl

And press Enter.

If you are very luck, things will start to print. (But no
guarantees! Smile)

George.

George that explanation was fantastic. Can you give
instructions on how to
sent a .brl file straight to the embosser via a USB
converter? The exact
stuff to write on that black screen? When I find it, the
command prompt
says:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\Keren1>
I know it's off list topic, I did email you directly asking
for help. I've
got loads of .brl files of maps and graph paper that I used
years ago. I
would love to be able to emboss them again.
Take care,
Keren
