Hi Fina, (and those interested in Templates)
Since I have a few minutes while the commercials are on TV, I thought I'd
give you a quick look into templates.
First, as you may already know, if you add or modify a Style, it is only
effective for that current document. Hence you need a Template if you use
modified Styles on a regular basis.
Second, you have to appreciate that DBT's Templates do not keep document
text. For this exercise consider that a Template only retains Styles.
(And third, before anyone asks, Templates which allow text to be stored as
well, are also on the wanted list.)
O.K. Fina, so you have modified the styles you have used in your restaurant
menu, and it now looks perfect. You have saved the text file (.dxp). And
moreover you have three minutes before you have to run for your bus home.
1) Open your restaurant menu .dxp file in DBT.
2) Go to the Document menu. (press Alt + d)
3) Select "Create new Template" (press c)
4) In the "Name for New Template" Text Box, give your new Template a name.
Let's call it "Restaurant Menus"
5) Press the O.K. button.
6) Close the open .dxp file.
7) Exit DBT.
8) Shut down PC.
9) Run for bus home.
That's basically it.
So next week, along comes Freddy's Diner wanting menus.
1) In DBT go to File and create a new document.
2) Select the Restaurant Menus Template you created above.
3) Get typing.
4) Apply Styles as appropriate. All your new and modified Styles will be as
they were in the first menu file you created, so you don't need to modify
them.
Can it be any easier?
More to follow - perhaps during the next commercial break.

Hi George,
I will go and try this and see what happens. I truly appreciate your help,
patience and suggestions. Oh, and by the way, you're also now an
accomplished mind reader (smiles) As I was reading through your message, I
was wondering if i should write back and ask if we could make a timplet or
menu or something that I could permanently use. So see, you answered my
question before i could ask it!!
Thanks - fina
