Do you mean that Word must be run *after Word is installed*.

Or do you mean that Word must be run *since the computer was last booted*.

Or something else?

Eureka!  I have found it!
 
Run Word. (in my case Word 2003)  No need to open a file.
 
THEN run DBT.
 
Up pops the proverbial, "Would you like to install SWIFT".
 
Even if you have answered YES, this only occurs when you run Word BEFORE a
session of DBT.
