Last night, we picked up where we left
off with Magnus, Carpathia, Quasit,
Nadan, Baish, Talosaard, and Mileena.
They wanted to have Dennis raised in
Sigil, and had just entered a portal
created by a frustrated Elminster, who
had just received a tongue-lashing from
Nadan.
Elminster sent them to hell, where they
found themselves confronted by none
other than the Black Legion. Amrikol
was apparently talking with a few
devils when they arrived about how
powerful he would become in that realm
if he died.
The party was surprised by Elminster's
actions, but it's hard to know what
brought it about - only time will tell.
Once there, the group had some success
at talking to the Black Legion, but
things took a turn for the worse when
Ariakas found out that the party had
confronted an alternate reality form of
Talos and apparently destroyed him (at
least to hear Nadan tell it).
The Legion also included Iludriss, a
fighter who was apparently composed of
fire and encased in magical full plate;
Nibrodius, a cleric of Kossuth; and
Talon, an assassin.
Amrikol seemed to take offense at
Magnus's suggestion that he couldn't
control the Legion, and combat ensued.
During the fighting, Quasit and
Carpathia died quickly as a result of
their injuries. Things looked grim for
a while until ANOTHER Amrikol appeared -
this one completely different from the
first, and much more like the one that
Magnus remembered from times past.
The two Amrikols began to battle each
other, and the party attempted to sneak
away. Unfortunately, Iludriss had not
forgotten them, and he began to attack.
Meanwhile, the members of the legion
were forced to choose sides between the
two Amrikols. Ariakas, still enraged
with Nadan, continued that battle for a
while, and eventually left in a rage
with a plane shift spell after
a "destruction" spell failed. Before
he left, though, he shouted "I am
loyal!" to the "original" Amrikol, who
shot back, "You worship a god - you can
never be loyal!".
Talon apparently remained loyal from
the start to the original Amrikol, and
stood by him. When Nibrodius found
himself unable to decide who to ally
with, and threw himself on both
Amrikol's mercy, Talon slew him.
Ultimately, Magnus succeeded in killing
the "new" Amrikol, partly with
the "original" Amrikol's help.
However, he noticed that the "new"
Amrikol was almost too eager to die.
When the killing spell came, he said to
the one devil: "You must now do your
part in our bargain."
With that, he died in a conflagration,
and arose as a 50' tall pit fiend. He
almost seemed to lose interest in the
battle, and proudly proclaimed himself
to be "one of the nine". It seems that
his past experience at world destroying
and universe altering (with the
introduction of third edition) had
given him some prestige in hell -
enough to give him quite a career boost
when he arrived.
With some difficulty, the group (the
Riders and Amrikol, Iludriss, and
Talon) left through a portal and
arrived back in Sigil.
After a parting of ways, the party
resurrected Carpathia, Dennis, and
Quasit. The group had some internal
scuffles, as Mileena had temporarily re-
animated Carpathia during the fight,
and as Nadan and Magnus had serious
differences of opinion about the
group's methods.
In the end, Dennis explained
that "General Klaw" really wanted to
liberate his own world, and that is
where he took the weakened gods that
Celane seemed to control. The riders
would head there next, after some
research into the matter.
I'll give out my comments later - my
wrist is hurting from this, and I
didn't even talk about the "Tooth of
Dendar" artifact -
comments?
