I agree with Don. My first carriage came with a crab. It took me a while to
figure out what the heck was wrong. This was some years ago and as we all
know, it was quite difficult to find any help....this was in the mid 80s and
there were precious few pair drivers in my neck of the woods back then.
Finally someone showed me a yoke. I had to find someone to fit the end of my
pole with a swivel and make me a yoke.
As Don says, you can use a shorter pole with the yoke. I hitch my yoke right
up, almost against the horse. My pole is suspended, but with the swivel yoke
so close, there's no room for it to bounce up and hit the horse. The only
distance between the yoke and the D ring on the breast collar is the length of
the quick release shackle. Not much room to bounce.
Personally, I'm not interested in following tradition nor do I care about what
harness should be used with which vehicle. I'm only interested in safety and
comfort for me and the horses. Makes it more fun to drive. But that's just
me. THis is my story, and I'm sticking to it!
