One of mine did too Sandy. Like yours as a single.
He had suffered severe, severe abuse and became a confirmed runaway in
harness. I took him as a rescue and retrained him under saddle. After showing
for
several years under saddle, he was calm enough to attempt in harness again.
He was fine with harnessing until we put a driving bridle on him. He began
shaking and sweating. Went out the barn door on his hind legs. I almost gave
up
then decided to try the unthinkable and use his riding bridle. He was fine.
Unlike your average horse, he needed to see where that whip was due to past
experience.
He ended up to be the safest, most reliable driving horse I've ever owned. I
could literally drive him anywhere - as long as he was in an open bridle.
An unusal situation but I bet I'm not the only one. To make this pairs
related, he was also driven in pair but he still went better in an open bridle.

His pair mate wore a traditional bridle.
