I am reading all of this with great interest. I have been ponying my youngster
and this seems very natural for him to be on the right side. Actually when the
boys are out romping free in the field I notice the young one almost always
going on right. so I will probably not mess with what comes naturally to them
both. I have also ponied him from the cart and he tends to gravitate to the
right and wants to be side by side with his brother. So far, he has not kicked
at anything I have exposed him to, and he isn't much of a bucker either. I
know, you are all saying "thank goodness". He shows a ton of work ethic even
for a young guy, so my hopes are high and my patience is long. Want to do all
the right things. He is currently (when it isn't pouring down rain) pulling a
drag.
I doubt I would start out in traffic, though I loved the reasoning why. I have
a huge driving flat and will pop the fence back up to enclose it fully when I
get ready to hitch. Probably next summer.
