[drivingpairs] Re: what do you do...?

I live at 6600 ft. altitude, only @ 25 miles east of Albuquerque, yet a
'different world', climate-wise! Temps are usually 10 degrees cooler daytime,
sometimes quite a bit more difference than that(lower), overnight, in winter.
I work my horses as I can, but they do get a fair amount of down-time, in the
winter. Big factor is either the biting NW winds, OR, if it has snowed and
melted, the sucking MUD! You just don't work in the mud, here- it is the stuff
adobe houses are made of, so is sticky as glue and slick as a gut! I have
considerable crusher fines laid down as pathways, and in some cases, over their
entire 12' X 36' runs(these are minis, except one, my Paint mare, who has one
end of the arena-125' X 25',with a big tree just outside the fence, when
weather permits, and a 12' x 50' run with 12' x 12' run in shed, for inclement
weather).
I am lucky if I can work through Nov., but Dec.,Jan., and Feb. are usually
out of the question, most of the time!
(I now have two pairs-my bay boys, and a couple of my semi-retirees, a mare
that was the first mini I trained to drive, and the dam of my AMHA Champion
half of the bay pair-- and my 'original' show gelding-they don't 'match' in
color or markings(he's a largely white silver bay pinto, she's a light silver
bay sabino, with bald face, tall hind socks and one blue eye) but they match in
height, stride and good work ethic quite well, and like each other!)The gelding
recently came home from a free lease,---so, I can't wait until spring!) Anyone
know of /have suggestions for,a reasonably priced, but reasonably light, and
tough, marathon-type vehicle, available for large A sized(just at 34", last
hair of mane measurement)minis? Though I don't really expect to be able to
actually compete in CDEs, for a variety of reasons, I would REALLY love to have
something that was more of a "knockabout" vehicle than my buckboard(fun for
parades and such, but not made for any sort of 'offroad' use...I have a
back-to-back trap-lovely, but am not using it- I would talk trade?
Best of holiday wishes to all,
  Margo Cox-Townsend
