Can anyone relate their experiences having two people handle the reins
for one horse each in a pair?
Sorry about the late reply, but since the weather (at least in western
NY) isn't conducive to driving, maybe you haven't tried this yet. My
trainer is very experienced in singles driving, but had never driven a
pair. We drove a whole lot with two drivers when we were teaching my
pair of Icelandics to drive as a pair. For us it worked great - each of
us drove one horse while we got over the issues of "green on green". We
did talk to each other to coordinate, but quietly so as not to confuse
the horses. When we were talking to them, we used their names, "Mosa,
trot". The horses weren't confused at all, maybe because neither of
them had ever been driven in a pair before. It didn't seem much
different than riding in a drill team would be - side by side but each
person commanding his own horse.
