[drivingpairs] Re: trailer design

Bob,

The horse area has 30 inch wide stalls and it is 8ft from butt barr to chest
bar with an additional 2 ft for their heads and necks so the horses have a
total of 10 ft length. The horses front feet are over the rear axle of the
trailer and their heads hang over the front axle, so the 2 outside stalls
have the wheel well by their front feet. I left the center stock gate in.
It sits at the 10 ft mark from the back and opens to the front of the
trailer into the carriage room. It also has the slide in it. So you could
go from the carriage area through the slide into the horse area. You can
also enter the horse area from the outside through escape doors set up as
the manager. Everything is removable. I modelled the trailer after most
of the gooseneck head to heads but I wanted a bumperpull so I could still
use the truck bed. Alan Thomas (sanger CA) has Bob Goree's old bumper pull
trailer and it is a steel trailer that has room for 2 carriages in the front
and 3 horses abreast in the back. I took measurments at Ramtap. I didn't
want to have as long of a trailer so I made it 18 ft instead of 22ft. I
will use a weight distribution hitch and sway bars. For balance I wouldn't
ever have 3 horses in the back and nothing in the front. Also by not
haveing a ramp on the back it removed weight from the tail end of the
trailer. The stalls might seem narrow but my current slant load has 30 inch
stalls. And that is also what all the goosenecks have.

If interested I can send pictures but I will also have it at California
Classic in Oct. at Lodi.

Diane
