I live in the Northeast and all my horses have been barefoot year round
for 3 years. I also find their feet much healthier this way. We go barefoot
sleighing all the time and carriage driving some of the time with hoof boots
when needed. I have not found a need for shoes in the many different
surfaces I have encountered. I was very worried the first Winter because it
was so icy but when trimmed correctly their feet were like suction cups on
the ice and I was shocked at how easy they traveled around . Even the 18
hand Clyde with giant feet has no problem with chips or breaks from being
barefoot all his life. I support people in whatever choice they make but
barefoot works well for me!!
