The reason that some draft tandems extend the leader traces all the way back
to the wheeler's single tree at the cart, is that with draft tandems the
reason for a tandem was to have a leader who can add extra PULL, like in HARD
PULLING for a heavy load, which is not the reason for carriage tandems. But for
the
hard pull it's better to have that hard pull not from any part of the
wheelers harness, as we do in carriage tandems. And when the draft leader is
in
heavy draft then of course those chains are tight and are not whiggling around.
Hardy (reading the stories and wondering - with tongue firmly in cheek - how
anybody wants to be in the ring with a bunch of beginning tandem drivers with
whips and leaders going everywhere :-). But ah yes, I remember, that's were
the suicidal tendencies as pre-requisite for tandem driving come in :-) And
some folks think CDE's are dangerous ? :-)
