Actually, you are right, Hardy. Breeching is not required by ADS rules for all turnouts, but, in this case, what we are trying to avoid is the fine light harness that is so prevalent in the ASPC shetland shows, with the accompanying high-stepping Hackney-like motion. So our thinking was to encourage a more country pleasure-type look. Most of these ponies pull two-wheel carts, with no brakes, so breeching would seem to be important in that case. Since we are just starting, we will probably have to make some rule changes along the way, but we wanted to start in the safest way possible. My guess is that you won't see too many of us proceeding to the FEI World Championships, but if we do, you can bet that the big guys will have trouble beating our times in cones and obstacles ;)
