Yes, there are two versions of riding shotgun. One is just as you described --
a man with a gun sitting next to the driver. But, in heavy Indian areas, many
times they would have hired guns riding horses alongside of the wagon, to fend
off sneak attacks. The Doctor's buggy will seat one very portly doctor, or two
skinny nurses :). Corvall is a 23 year old black standardbred mare, and she is
currently driving single, but I just got the pair pole in, and will be getting
my next "victim" (probably Cinco, a black Holsteiner mare) trained up on a new
harness, pulling tires. My new roomie's mom competes with pairs, and so I'll
have a borrowed pair harness coming in the next week or so. I'm so excited!!!!
