Watch out for the ones with screw in clevis pins. They can come UN-screwed at
the
most awkward times! If that is all you can find, be sure to wrap a safety wire
through the hole in the pin and around the fork of the clevis.
I had one drop out during a CDE. Fortunately, it was AFTER the vet check at the
end of "E", so no harm was done, other than a scramble for a replacement. I
prefer the ones with a spring clip through the end of the clevis pin. ALWAYS
insist on Stainless Steel.
For non critical applications, you can also get Stainless Steel carabiners at
the
marine supply stores. As Keith noted, they have the load capacity stamped (or
cast) on the shank.
