[drivingpairs] question about traces

Ok everyone...I've been doing my research but there is one question I cannot
find an answer to. I understand the difference between slotted traces and
chain end traces but what I cannot find is evidence of chain end traces in
carriage work None of my authors comment on it and none of books describe
it or show pictures of it. I only find heel chains in heavy draft work. Is
there a reason you do not use heel chains in carriage work? Is it just a
fashion faux pas like wearing green shoes with a red outfit or is there a
technical/safety reason why?
Thanks for everyone's patience and help with all my questions.
Cindy
