I got an email last night that the executive committee for the USAEq is
meeting on Mon the 21st. They are getting their packets today with all t=
he
letters etc. and people have until Thurs to submitt letters or emails fo=
r
consideration. =

THere is cautious optimism. The biggest concern seems to be that they ha=
ve
just merged after this big fight with USET and it would be dicey to
overrule the USET in the first meeting after the merger, but hopefully
they will view it as a chance to show the entire equestrian community tha=
t
the old days are over, and fairness will now prevail. =

Obviously we will be waiting with baited breath. =

Well, I drove the pair for the first time last night. Over 100 degrees,=
 =

very high humidity, horrible, but Craig and Roxie Langseth were trooper=
s
and we managed to get it all together and going. =

I drove 20 min at a walk. With several halts and stands and starts. Di=
d
more hills that I might have chosen but the hay field where we were drivi=
ng
has terraces and a slope so that was what we did. Serpentine back and
forth up and down the hill. They were really good. The colt was alittle=

unsettled, shook his head alittle, kicked out to the side twice, got a=

little light in front once, but Craig and Roxie, who have done this far
more than I were really impressed with him and thought he did great. Abo=
ut
10 min in he settled down and pretty much marched along like a good
soldier. Kord was a saint and just kept walking along regardless of what=

was going on next to him. They almost always started off together, neve=
r
had any jerking, just the colt feeling pretty good in the beginning
despite the heat. The colt had his traces tight most of the time and was=

pulling up the hills and never got upset going down the hill either, whic=
h
I guess is good for a first time. =

I plan to take this slowly and have at least one and maybe two more drive=
s
of no trotting at all. Then will start with VERY brief breaks to the tro=
t
and go on from there. My goal is to get them to KC the end of Sept for a=

training combined test, so I have 2 1/2 months to get them trotting and
going in circles. LOL =

My pole is pretty heavy, I had told the guy I didn't want any part of it=

bending and maybe over did it, VBG but they are big horses. It is suppo=
se
to be sprung, but the shock isn't strong enough to hold it up on it's own=
,
but at least helps some. The horses didn't seem to mind it at all. =

I used the pole length in the chart, 110", but it is really long. Hors=
es
are pretty far out, and I had pole straps with a yoke, but Craig said it =
is
good to kind of give them some room when starting a new one, so will lea=
ve
it this way for now and probably shorten it up later. Just thought I wou=
ld
tell people that length is much longer than what I see at CDE's. =
