(I am sorry if this comes twice, folks - I realized that I had not erased
the old posts when I hit send, tried to cancel, but I'm not sure if the
first version went through - my apologies if it did).
Thanks, Kathy. I am just learning how this pairs harness works. The
breeching set up is so different from a single. I was thinking about this
the other night. As we drove the ponies, we kept noticing that the
breastcollars were being pulled forward before the breeching came into play
which would be a new sensation to the ponies even though I have driven them
around my farm, but for much shorter distances. The more experienced person
riding with me said the same, but thinking on it, how else would the
breeching work? You would have to have some forward motion on the breast
collars for the breeching to engage. It just seems as if the pole is a
shade (about 4 - 5 inches) too long, causing the traces to be a little taut
and perhaps preventing the breeching from engaging quick enough? I will
definitely get someone here to adjust this with me and come up with the best
fit. I am a bit of a stickler for this anyway. Part of the problem with a
pair is that there is always someone else there and I have never taken the
long time needed to fit each harness just so, as I have done with the
singles. It seems as if the partner always wants to help and I really need
to take the time to perfectly fit each piece. I'll just have to be more
assertive with my help! Also I can see now that the brakes are essential -
what a help they would have been. The vehicle is very light so I was fooled
into thinking the brakes would not be that much advantage, but with this
play between the breast collars and breeching, I can see they are essential
with a four-wheeled vehicle and pair. Live and learn (at least the ponies
and I lived to correct my mistakes!) Thanks everyone for the help - you
have given me much to think about...
Laurie
