I checked with my husband on the myth status. He said
it was part of his 5th grade science experiments!!
Hot had the first skim of ice out on the window sill.
I think it has to do with the air content of the water. Hot water has no air in
it and air slows the freezing process. That is also why if you put warm or hot
water in ice trays, the ice cubes will be clear - no air!
