Just back on line I see all these posts about hitching pairs The most common
and I believe the safest method is the one where 2 people walk the horses to
either side of the pole you then attach the coupling reins then 1 person can
stand at the horses heads while the other attaches the outside trace then
the inside to the off side horse and put the rein up to the dash then attach
the pole strap then repeat the same order with the near horse you are then
already on the near side of the carriage ready to take the reins and mount The
only change if you have a drop pole attach the yoke straps first but make sure
there is 1 person at the heads Don't let the horses eat grass or gaze about
keep their attention at the task at hand.If hitching a tandem or four get the
wheeler[s] completely hooked have someone stay with them bring the leader[s]
into position if 4 couple reins together and run through all the terrets to
the dash ready to take up Then attach traces and have someone stay at their
heads till you get up on the box and gather the reins Safe driving all Jerry
