Since none of you are close enough to get your hands around my neck and
choke me.................
We here in south central Washington State have had a very mild winter (for
us). We've been training at our local fairgrounds (indoor arena) every
Saturday, but most of us have been driving outside because the weather has
been not TOO bad. It rained on us a week ago, and was cool. Last weekend,
we hauled out our four up bay hitch and decided to hit the road with them.
Our group trucked in to the fairgrounds, hitched up, and went out from
there. It was sunny, and about 45 degrees and a heavy west wind, so yes, we
were bundled up tightly. No protection along the road we drove, so the
sections that were into the wind weren't very nice. But we did it, and had
a great time. These guys are great on the road--they rein so nicely, and it
was fun dodging mud puddles and bumps, and playing leapfrog with the other
drivers. This is our experienced "go to" hitch (I neglected to tell you
about the VERY fast tour of the fairgrounds the previous week with the four
pintos in training--that's another story, but not for the faint of heart),
and we are getting them in condition for the big Northwest Equine Expo in a
month down in Oregon.
For you hibernators, today got up to 35 degrees, and the east wind blew. 15
degrees last night, and probably again tonight. This is some of the worst
we've had all winter, except for one spell back in November. Plenty of
rain, and mud, but not much snow like we usually get.
THERE WILL BE WARM SUNNY DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep the faith, and pet
your fur balls out at the barn for now. Keep the harness oiled up. Read
them driving magazines. Get out the rein board and exercise your hands.
And then, LET'S GO DRIVING!
Jim, in sunny Goldendale
