Well, the idea is not for you to stop making the noise if the horse spooks.
The idea is for the horse to learn to trust that you will not let whatever
is making the noise hurt him. Also to get used to hearing all types of
sounds going on behind him.....and that it's ok.
Seems to me that using the string with the cans would be training YOU to
drop the string when the horse spooks. But that's just MHO.
