I forgot my main point, sorry.
A couple of years ago, a 4-H girl and mom contacted me
to see if they could ask a BIG favour and borrow a
cart and harness for the State 4-H show (it went very
well, actually, don't worry!!!!)
They came out and brought their dog-ugly pony -- who
is broke WONDERFULLY and does driving, hunter, western
pleasure, dressage and BARRELLS!!!! -- and drove him.
They said they had had one lesson from someone else
who had told them their harness and cart were too
small..... I asked who it was (they live next county
over) and they told me it was the aforementioned....
and I couldn't help myself but say, "But he's a
BEGINNER DRIVER himself!"
And the girl said, "Mom, I TOLD YOU!!!!" Very
perceptive teen-ager, and a wonderful girl!
And they were asking about this thing called "taking a
loop"..... they didn't understand just what it was. I
told them they wouldn't be worrying about that unless
they were driving a four-in-hand.... and they said
that "John" had mentioned somehting about their having
to "take a loop" as they were driving their single
pony....
At any rate, they did well -- second -- at the Finals.
Showed me the video. Her big-headed 20+ year old
pony was the ONLY entry to execute a strong trot. But
I think there was prejudice toward the Morgan with the
tail dragging the ground pulling a meadowbrook because
they looked prettier. At least she beat the cute
little minis with their harnesses and carts fitted
improperly and hitched wrong...

Also, several years ago, my trail riding club had a

"My furs are not in storage or draped across the bed,
They're hanging from the cage door, waiting to be fed."
