Actually, the Amish do have church leaders called "bishops", just not in the
sense of Roman Catholic or other bishops. Bishops do discuss what practices
will amintain the close knittedness of the community. One of the latest
issues here in Lancaster was use of bobcat loaders on farms. . . . did they
allow work to get done too expeditiously or not.
We have a few families who drive pairs on this side of the Susquehanna,
there is a huge hill up and down to the river, and with 5 or 7 or 9 people
in the carriage going to church across the river, they need the horsepower.
