For full size horses and our normal easy going driving, I think that usually
breast collars are good enough, and use them for easier fit etc. BUT full
collars do give more pulling power, so once the going get tough and a lot of
pull
is needed, then definitely the full collar is better for the horse. Yes, they
must be fitted properly, but then they give more pulling power and more
comfort to the horse. So, when we are talking VSE, although I personally am
not
driving VSE's and may not be that knowledgeable in that respect, and I also
know, in relationship to their size, they do have an aweful big pulling power,
nevertheless, the ration from their size to what they have to pull clearly
means,
they have to pull a lot more than full size horses. Thus for VSE's I think
you are served well to look into full collars and spend the extra money, time
and efforts to find a good fit for your little guys. (And no question, for me
it would definitely be with stainless steel fittings for ease of care).
