Milli Ann,
I prefer to start the new ones out as a pair.
I have a horse I trust a lot and he is strong enough
to stop most partners if they get out of hand. I
would not want to start off two green horses as a
pair. Pairs can feed off each other. If one gets
scared the other one may go with it.
I use Amish buggy collars made by Broadhead and
sold in several harness shops close by. Of course
I can take one home and if it doesn't fit right, I
just trade it for another. The horses work well in
them and they have always passed the vet checks in
the CDEs.
Hope this helps.
