That's a different "yoke" than what we were talking about, although what you 
see there is the "real" yoke and where it comes from, from American poles. 
Yes, you need a leather strap to secure it that it does not come off the pole 
head, because, if it ever does, then you are in bad trouble when the pole 
head hits the ground and goes in it while the horse continue down the road. 
Not pretty then. But that's NOT the marathon "yoke" we talked about. The 
marathon yoke is a piece of steel with a swivel joint at the end, not a 
wooden yoke with a leather piece.
